One Hundred Twenty

04.30.10, originally uploaded by kyria!.

I was trying so hard to get this shot...but the fence I was attempting to rest my camera on was a little rocky, low and unstable. This is as good as it got. I do like the reflection of the moon on the water but I didn't get the city very clear. Maybe someone can give me a hint...how do you get more detail in the moon?

  1. i have the same issue. probably a combination of a telephoto lens, tripod, long exposure. patience isn't my strong suit. i love the lights and reflection here. nice!

  2. The only things I can think of are:
    1. Making sure you have the manual focus on and focused on the city and moon so they come out clear.
    2. You might need a longer shutter speed. That would allow more light to hit the sensor and the city and moon would appear brighter.

It's a great pic though! I like the moon's reflection on the water as well.

  3. I haven't had a lot of success with a full moon either, although my last time was getting better (but not postable yet, in my opinion).

    - a tripod will definitely help, or solid surface where you don't have to hold the camera
    - set the timer for 2 seconds, then press the shutter - avoids camera shake (assuming you use the tripod)
    - a slower shutter speed will make the moon even brighter and remove any detail; try a faster shutter speed

    Good luck.
